market, Hewlett-Packard (Canada) Co. today announced the opening of a new production facility in Toronto, Ontario. The facility will help HP maximize its supply chain efficiencies by reducing delivery and inventory cycles and simultaneously improving partner and customer satisfaction.

The facility will produce the HP Compaq Business Desktop d530 series of PCs. These “Made in Canada” PCs will meet all domestic needs of Canadian customers for this line of business computers.

Because the PCs are manufactured in Canada, orders will now take just five to eight days from order-to-delivery. This development is expected to be particularly beneficial to HP Canada’s distributors and resellers, since shorter delivery cycles from HP and improved inventory efficiencies can help them become more responsive to customers’ needs.

“With the opening of the production facility, HP Canada has taken a major stride in maximizing supply chain efficiencies within our business PC line by providing cutting-edge, flexible, just-in-time solutions to Canadian customers,” said Lloyd Bryant, vice-president and general manager, Personal Systems Group, HP Canada. “When combined with other key enhancements we’re making to our supply chain, the new facility will help deliver on HP’s global mandate to improve operational efficiency and increase cost effectiveness.”

The opening of the production facility is just the latest of a series of recent enhancements HP Canada has made to its supply chain in the Canadian market. HP Canada continues to invest significant resources in developing highly competitive capabilities for all parts of the supply chain. This includes using state-of-the -art software and hardware solutions for order management, Web-based forecasting and tracking and demand/supply matching tools.

According to Rick Reid, president, Tech Data Canada Corp., "The opening of the production facility will help provide us with the flexibility needed to be even more responsive to the needs of our mutual reseller partners." Reid continued, "We're pleased with the steps HP is taking to support their Canadian channel partners through this initiative."

Producing the d530 series in Canada now means that Canadian distributors will benefit from shorter delivery cycles and improved inventory efficiencies for the d530 series.

“As an integrator with a comprehensive set of HP-based solutions, we’re constantly looking for new ways to improve order fulfillment cycles to our customers,” stated Dave Massey, vice-president, Distribution Services, NexInnovations Inc. “HP's supply chain enhancements, most notably their new business PC production facility, will go a long way to significantly enhancing efficiencies and providing even higher levels of responsiveness for our customers.”
