Dublin, Ireland, Nov. 27, 2007 – HP Ireland today announced a relationship with Airtricity, as part of the company’s goal to reduce its energy use by 20 percent by the end of 2010.

The contract with Airtricity will ensure that nearly 90 percent of HP’s energy use in Ireland is renewable, exceeding the company’s 2007 target for carbon emission reductions.

Wind technology in Ireland

HP’s contract with Airtricity, a renewable energy company developing and operating wind farms across Europe and North America, is for the supply of renewable wind energy to a number of its facilities in Ireland for fiscal year 2008. The electricity supplied by Airtricity is generated by both onshore and offshore wind farms.

HP’s agreement with Airtricity worth €8 million will cover purchase of more than 80 gigawatt-hours of renewable energy. It is estimated that the agreement will save HP approximately €30,000 over the year-long contract. There are also significant environmental benefits – HP will save the release of more than 40,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to taking 9,600 cars off the road for one year.

Commenting, Martin Murphy, Managing Director of HP Ireland, said, “By switching to renewable energy, our operations in Ireland will play an important role in helping to achieve aggressive company targets in reduction and reuse of energy resources as part of HP’s comprehensive energy-efficiency program.”

Eddie O’Connor, CEO of Airtricity, added:  “HP has boldly set-up a ‘Carbon Footprint Challenge’ for its employees in Ireland to help reach a company wide goal of reducing energy usage by 20 percent before 2010. A partnership with Airtricity will assist the company in reaching this objective.  This agreement means that HP has now become our largest customer, and is one of a growing number of multinational companies in Ireland who have switched to Airtricity.”
