Beautiful backlit signage

Vibrant signage shining out from a light box is always eye-catching. Giant backlit posters for blockbuster films grab our attention and imagination, as do stylish product shots for luxury goods and perfumes.

Creating attractive backlit displays is simple and quick, yet it will please your customers and offers a great way to grow your business.

HP has an exciting range of specialist backlit films and inks that can help you deliver premium results.

When printing with water-based (aqueous) inks for best results use HP Premium Vivid Color Backlit Film. When using solvent-based inks, V-curable or Latex, it is advisable to use HP Premium Backlit Film. You will also need HP Translucent PVC Display and, of course, a correctly-sized backlit sign box.

5 winning production tips

To impress your customers follow these simple steps:

1. Prepare the backlit poster file for printing. Make sure to set up the image size so it prints at full bleed to the exact dimensions of your sign box. For example, if using a 40 x 60-inch sign box, the print image size should be exactly 40 x 60 inches.

2. Load the film into your printer. If your printer doesn't have a media profile for your particular backlit film, use a glossy photo-paper setting on the front panel. HP large-format printing (LFP) solutions like the HP DesignJet Z6100 series come with a preset backlit media profile.

3. Print your file and wait while it has time to dry thoroughly. If lamination is required, do it before trimming.

4. Trim the printed image to bleed.

5. Carefully install the printed image into your light box, and switch it on to see your work shine!

Finishing techniques

Your backlit printing can be laminated with cold laminates only. Lamination is recommended when you require extended lightfastness or waterfastness – or if the print will be subjected to frequent handling.

See the light!

Light boxes can give your large-format printing business another edge. With minimal production, they can bring you valuable revenue. So, what are you waiting for: go light up a customer’s face and their printing!
