I’m in the HP SmartHome in Cupertino, California. A real-life, three-bedroom residence, the HP SmartHome showcases the digital lifestyle at its best – with down-home simplicity that makes it all easier. It’s all about being able to connect to entertainment and information where and when I want around the house. Take a tour with me and learn how to bring the connected entertainment experience home to your house.
HP TouchSmart IQ775 All-in-One PC
In the kitchen, I touch the screen on the space-saving HP TouchSmart All-in-One PC and a ‘Smart Center’ appears, with icons representing what I might have to do in a typical day.
And they’re completely customizable to my life. I can simply touch the icons to look at my calendar or a traffic report, check my stocks (Buy or sell?) or see the weather forecast (boots or shoes?) (1) My yellow-sticky, front-of-the-fridge system is over: I can leave online sticky notes that don’t get lost on the bottom of somebody’s shoe. I can type a to-do list, or use the built-in Webcam to record a video reminder to my son: “Finish that book project!” And he can – quickly tapping into applications and online(1) references or printing colorful photos for visual impact.
With today’s busy lifestyle, the TouchSmart PC can be the hub of the kitchen where people exchange news.
HP Pavilion Elite m9100t series
Rounding a corner into the office, I see the HP Pavilion Elite PC. A 24-inch diagonal widescreen display shows a hi-def (2,3,4) movie in glorious colors. Between this and the TouchSmart PC, I’m beginning to change my perception of what a desktop PC can be.
As a desktop, the Pavilion Elite can be great for everyday high-performance computing. But as an entertainment PC, it really shows its true colors – managing digital content like TV shows, music, high-def (2,3,4) movies and photos with ease. Thanks to a TV tuner card and a personal video recorder, I can use the remote to record, pause and rewind live shows.
Built-in wireless technology, including a wireless keyboard and mouse, unclutters the desk. I see two built-in storage bays to add an HP Pocket Media Drive or a Personal Media Drive that stores up to 500GB.(5)
There’s also an HP Pavilion Slimline PC. With it, I get the power of a fully loaded entertainment PC in a package one-third the size of a normal tower.
HP tx2000 Entertainment Notebook PC
I can take my life and show on the road, too. The office’s HP tx2000 entertainment notebook is a lightweight, touchscreen PC with a twist that easily converts to my lifestyle and has a sleek high-gloss, high-class look I love.
With a 12-inch diagonal wide-format display, a full-size keyboard and large hard drives, it do the same work as a desktop PC. But at 4.5 pounds,(6) it’s a powerful mobile PC that fits into my big purse, and it quickly changes into a tablet PC. I can type or use the touchscreen and the digital pen to write, draw or navigate while at work or my night class.
When I get home, I can slip it into a docking station(7) to backup my files or dock myself on the couch to read the news in tablet mode. With a built-in Webcam and microphone I can chat in live video.(1) Or, I can hit the HP QuickPlay button for a bunch of entertainment options.
In the bedroom is an HP Pavilion HDX entertainment notebook. With an adjustable, high-def (8) 20.1-inch diagonal screen, I could buy it to play Blu-ray DVD movies in stunningly vivid color. A hybrid TV tuner (4) lets me watch standard TV or over-the-air HD TV. A remote that docks right next to the keyboard controls it all.
There’s a Webcam for video chats,(1) a full-size keyboard and plenty of connectivity options with four USB ports. So, it’s more than a notebook, it’s a desktop alternative that easily closes and stores away when company comes. But why would you?
