Delivering on its 5-year plan to automate and upgrade its services, Cardinal Santos Hospital has chosen HP as their hardware solutions partner. The installation, completed June 2002, will initially streamline admission and purchasing operations in one of the country’s most respected healthcare institutions.
Through HP’s reseller Keysys, Cardinal Santos acquired 88 units of Compaq Evo D510 desktops and two units of HP ProLiant ML530 servers to support two new systems that were exclusively designed for the hospital’s specific needs – the Fidelio system used for front office, admission and cashier services; and the ESM system used for documents processing.
At the same time, the installation will become a key component in the hospital’s latest image archiving system that is expected to cut diagnoses time by more than half, thereby allowing patients to seek immediate medical treatments.
The new system called Picture Archiving and Communication System, or PACS, is a filmless method of communicating and storing radiographs whereby images are recorded onto an imaging plate by a laser and stored on a server.
Instead of using the traditional hard copies, doctors can now view and translate radiographs instantly through their computers from virtually anywhere – a local or remote office or even at home using a Web browser.
Hilario Murillo, Jr., managing director of Cardinal Santos Hospital emphasized that these developments are the fruition of the establishment’s vision of being the patients’ first choice in quality health care.
“We are really privileged to be one of the very few hospitals in the country to have such highly-advanced equipment. With this installation, we can now fully concentrate on the needs of our patients and their immediate treatments instead of spending too much time on paperwork.”
Steve Gan, Chief Technology Officer of Keysys said that the HP solutions are vital to the hospital’s current and future operations, especially once the PACS system is already in place.
“In our evaluation of the hospital’s needs, we outlined all the technical specifications required to carry out their long-term plan. We needed a superior IT architecture that will support the new systems. After reviewing the features of several brands, we found HP’s solutions to be the most robust and capable of handling these systems.”
Murilla likewise added that the installation is not the end point of the project, but the beginning. “There is still a lot of work to be done in the hospital. We are confident that HP can provide us the full IT support that we need, which will eventually be an effective catalyst for us to provide Filipinos with the highest quality healthcare available at the fastest time possible.”
“HP continues to develop and deliver the robust solutions across all markets, bearing in mind the demanding requirements of each and every market sector,” said Nilo S. Cruz, Managing Director, HP Philippines. “HP’s products and solutions installed in Cardinal Santos will enable the hospital to harness their own equipment’s full capabilities for the benefit of their patients.”
Cruz likewise recognizes the hospital’s exhaustive search for the right IT solutions for their demanding requirements.
“Medical care, whatever the extent, should never be left to chance. In as much as Cardinal Santos has placed their trust in HP, we are confident that our solutions will be more than capable of helping the establishment fulfill their vision.”
Cardinal Santos Hospital in Greenhills has remained one of the top major medical centers in the country since its inception in August 1974.
