Contrary to what most people think, being a radio DJ does not only involve sitting in a small booth for long hours, play music, and talk about the weather and traffic from time to time. Well, at least not anymore.

Today’s generation of listeners is one of the most fun-loving, energetic and outspoken group the broadcast industry has ever had. This is why radio stations are compelled to produce fresher, more creative ideas that will easily lure listeners to stick to their particular station. And, with 50 radio stations operating in the National Capital region alone, the battle over airwaves supremacy proves to be an interesting one.

Which is why people like Alex Gotinga, aka Max Speed of DWTM Magic 89.9, has their work cut out for them.

As Program Director of one of the hippest and most popular FM radio stations in the country, Alex must not only keep his eyes and ears open to anything and everything new in the music industry, he also has to come up with interesting features and activities for their listeners that will make them stay. For Alex, this means endless hours of research and internet time.

“Basically, my work revolves around music 24/7 since that is what I handle in Magic,” says Alex. “I’m always looking for new stuff to play on the station, so I’m constantly surfing the Net or listening to music, which is why I have to be connected all the time. This is where the Wi-Fi feature of my HP iPAQ h6365 comes in very handy.”

Interestingly enough, Alex’s love story with his HP iPAQ h6365 began quite unexpectedly.

“I was scouting around for a phone, one with those higher resolution cameras already built in. It seemed like a good idea, so I eventually bought one with a 1.3 megapixel feature,” recalls Alex.

Barely a week after buying the phone, Alex received an invitation from HP Philippines to attend their consumer event – a press launch of their latest consumer digital products that included printers, multimedia PCs, notebooks and the handhelds.

“I’m really into gadgets. Whenever my parents or friends have something new, I tend to borrow it from them for a couple of days just to tinker around with it.”

“So when I learned that the event is actually a launch of HP’s latest digital products, I became curious and decided to attend,” explains Alex.

“When I got there, I didn’t know what digital products HP was going to launch. Then during the presentation, they showed the iPAQ 6365. I thought it was cool having a PDA and a phone in one gadget. After that, I actually considered buying one.”

True enough, Alex sold his one week-old camera phone and, after some careful consultation with the reseller, bought his very own unit.

“The camera phone, to me, turned out to be just an expensive texting machine. Other than that, there’s nothing else you can do with it. Whereas, the iPAQ 6365 had more features than what I initially knew.”

To Alex’s amazement, the HP iPAQ 6365 turned out to be more than just a PDA and a phone.

The iPAQ 6365 is HP’s ultimate do it all anytime, anywhere gadget. Not just a Pocket PC, it is also a mobile phone with integrated 3-way wireless quad band GSM/GPRS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technology, giving users high-speed wireless voice and data connectivity at work, at home and on the go.

It also features a built-in digital camera with VGA resolution, an mp3 player, and pocket versions of Microsoft® software (including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer for Pocket PC) so users can still do Windows-based applications even outside of the office or away from a PC.

“What made me decide to buy the iPAQ is its mobility feature, which is very favorable for me because of my busy schedule. At first, I wanted to get a laptop but it’s hard to go around the city carrying it. So I thought why not get something smaller that has the same function as a laptop and even make a call or send text messages and emails even when I’m not in the station. Plus, I can watch movies, listen to mp3s and take pictures. The iPAQ 6365 gives me all that in just one handy gadget I can bring with me.”

But among all the features in the iPAQ, the WiFi proved to be most beneficial for Alex.

“The WiFi feature has definitely helped me a lot especially when I go on field. For example, I just recently covered the Grammy Awards and everybody thought that everybody else will bring a laptop. But I was confident that I don’t need one because I had my iPAQ with me,” recounts Alex.

“At the Staples Center, where we did the interviews for the Grammy’s, there were some artists that are not yet known and we couldn’t search the internet for information right away because the lines to the computers are really long.”

Delays like these, Alex asserts, is a big no-no in the radio business because of the risk of losing the listeners’ interest. “The problem with that is if we can’t give our listeners the information right away, then we have no business covering it in the first place.”

But with his iPAQ, Alex was able to download the information he needed right away. “The Staples Center had WiFi access, so I just took out my iPAQ and started to surf the Net. It was that convenient,” says Alex. “We were able to pass on the information from the Center to the station in a matter of minutes.”

Having personally experienced the broad capabilities of the HP iPAQ 6365, Alex is not about to let go of his newfound digital buddy.

“I have tried almost every gadget in the market and they don’t even last a month with me,” says Alex.

“But my iPAQ has been with me much longer than that, so I can say I’m very pleased with it. In fact, I have even convinced two of my colleagues to purchase their own unit. That’s how confident I am with the iPAQ’s capabilities.”

And you, too, can see and experience the multi-capabilities of the iPAQ 6365 in HP’s biggest, most elaborate IT consumer event for the year entitled “MAKE IT REAL! MAKE IT HP!” to be held on May 27 to 29, 2005, 10am to 9pm at the Shangri-La Mall, EDSA.
