HP won the AXA Award for Corporate Sustainability during the 2007 European Business Awards conference and ceremony held in Brussels on January 31, 2007.
The AXA award is one of eight that make up the European Business Awards that celebrate business excellence across Europe, recognising best practice, innovative business processes and overall business success across the region. Specifically the AXA award lauds corporations which demonstrate strong involvement in managing social, environmental and governance risk prevention.
HP was selected out of ten short-listed companies including ABN AMRO, Akzo Nobel NV, Henkel KGaA and Volvo Car Corporation. It was commended for its contribution to sustainable development internationally and for clearly integrating the impact of their activities into their core business strategy.
“The AXA Award for Corporate Sustainability rewards HP for more than 50 years of involvement in corporate sustainability issues," said Claude Brunet, AXA´s member of the Management Board in charge of Transversal Operations and Projects, Human Resources, Brand and Communications.
HP’s term for all aspects of its social and environmental responsibility is Global Citizenship. HP’s Global Citizenship strategy is a comprehensive approach which focuses on social investment, the environment, supply chain responsibility and privacy.
“We adapt our business practices to reflect the commercial, social and environmental needs of the regions where we operate, working with organisations and communities to create the most effective strategies and programmes“, explained Francesco Serafini, HP’s Managing Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa.
HP was also one of the ten companies short listed for the Siemens Business Innovation of the Year Award for its Microenterprise Acceleration Programme (MAP) which creates teaching and learning expertise in the area of ICT for micro entrepreneurs. In addition HP’s MAP programme received a special mention during the presentation of the Société Generale Award for Customer Focus which recognises companies for their dedication to customer service.
