HP issued its annual Global Citizenship Report that outlines the company’s progress, as well as challenges, for fiscal year 2007. Among the global citizenship priority areas detailed in the report are energy efficiency of products and operations, supply chain social and environmental responsibility, and product reuse and recycling as well as insights into core areas like social investment and customer privacy.
HP held its first annual HP Women’s Summit under the title “Building the next generation of women leaders”. As gender diversity is a key area for business development and corporate competitiveness, the Summit aimed to increase leadership opportunities for talented women and further build a community of women leaders in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.
HP won the AXA Award for Corporate Sustainability during the 2007 European Business Awards ceremony on January 31, 2007. The AXA award is one of eight that make up the European Business Awards that celebrate business excellence across Europe. It lauds corporations which demonstrate strong involvement in managing social, environmental and governance risk prevention.
HP has established new goals to reduce the energy use and carbon intensity of its operations and products as well as reported its progress on environmental initiatives across the company.

HP today announced the launch of Power To Change, a campaign that encourages personal computer users around the world to make behavioral changes in support of the environment. The campaign encourages users to download a new desktop widget that tracks the cumulative energy savings associated with participants turning off idle PCs when not in use.

HP together with the Global Digital Solidarity Fund (DSF) and the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research (Empa) unveiled the first results of a pilot project to tackle the problem of electronic waste (e-waste) in Africa.

HP and UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) signed a strategic partnership agreement on 19 December to strengthen their collaboration around existing education projects.
The South African Government announced HP as the first company to obtain approval for an equity investment proposal under the government’s Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) initiative. Through the investment, HP will support the development of the HP Business Institute (HPBI), an independently run enterprise and skills development programme aimed at increasing the pool of IT talent amongst South Africa’s majority black community.
The international competition invites student teams to make a series of budgeting decisions affecting a hypothetical business during a two and one-half year period, including capital investment, research and development, pricing structure, marketing and production level. Azerbaijan students Irina Lesnyak (19) and Azer Ismayilov (20) have been awarded the €2,250 (,000) first place prize in the 12th annual HP Global Business Challenge.
