London, 23 January, 2008 – HP today announced a new business desktop designed with the environment in mind to help companies increase the reliability and reduce the environmental impact of their PCs.
The HP Compaq dc5800 Business PC provides power and flexibility as well as a variety of environmental features that allows it to meet the most stringent environmental requirements of the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT™) Gold registry.
HP currently tops the industry in the number of Gold-listed products in the EPEAT registry, which helps businesses evaluate, compare and select technology products based on their environmental attributes, such as meeting the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s latest ENERGY STARTM energy efficiency requirements.
While using more power efficient PCs can help any business save on energy costs and reduce the environmental impact of their technology, the effect across an enterprise environment can be immense. For example, the recent IDC Go Green PC Power Play Study found that the U.S. Federal government could save more than $82.4 million dollars in energy costs(1) and equivalent to conserving more than 1.3 million barrels of oil in just one year(2) if its more than10 million existing ENERGYSTAR 3.0 PCs were updated to the new 4.0 standard.(3) The research study was underwritten by HP to help quantify the savings opportunities energy-efficient PCs could provide the Federal government.
“For many decades HP has been designing products with the environment in mind,” said David Wright, vice president and general manager, Personal Systems Group, HP UK&I. “Our long-standing commitment to continually develop smart ideas for products like the HP Compaq dc5800 can help business customers remain competitive whilst also reducing their operating costs and impact on the environment.”
