Since opening its doors in Vietnam in 1995, HP has focused on an unswerving commitment to supporting the local Vietnamese community, in addition to providing them with access to the world's best technology products and solutions.

This commitment was formally recognised in January when HP was awarded a Golden Dragon prize for 2004 in the field of IT, for the best IT products and solutions.

Run by the Foreign Investment Department under the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Vietnam Economic Times, the annual awards recognise and reward foreign-invested businesses for the provision of premium products and solutions as well as the contribution they make to the Vietnamese economy.

Voted for by the readers of the Vietnam Economic Times, prizes are given out to foreign-invested businesses in a variety of categories, from car manufacturing to finance to IT.

In addition to the many industry awards, this year a new prize was added for companies that have received an award for the past four consecutive years. HP was the only IT company to take one of these highly-coveted prizes, in recognition for its success in the Golden Dragon Awards over the past four years.

Madam Tran Thi Minh Thuan, Country Managing Director, HP Vietnam, said that the Awards provided well earned recognition for the staff's hard work and efforts to grow the business throughout Vietnam — including diversifying products and implementing a number of community activities.

'The Golden Dragon prize reflects the public's recognition that HP is a technology company committed to offering the best technological solutions and customer assistance at an affordable price,' she said.

A decade on, HP continues to grow in Vietnam

The prizes are a timely accolade for HP since this year it celebrates 10 years in Vietnam as a 100 percent foreign-owned company.

Over the last decade, HP has cemented itself firmly in Vietnam and the company has offices located in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, with more than 70 employees.

In 1999, HP Vietnam became the first IT company in the country to receive the ISO 9002 certification for its customer support services.

Since opening in 1995, HP Vietnam has started two fully-equipped and staffed Service Centers in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. HP Vietnam also has an extensive network of Authorised Service Providers in Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Nghe An, Nam Dinh, Yen Bai, Viet Tri, Thai Nguyen, Thanh Hoa, Ha Dong, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Can Tho, etc.

Serving the Vietnamese community

As part of HP's commitment to the broader Vietnamese community, over the past 10 years the company has established itself as a proactive corporate citizen, keen to contribute to the development of IT and education throughout the country.

One priority for HP has been in helping to grow the local industry and the company has invested significantly in this area over the past 10 years. As an example, in 2003 HP developed a partnership with Saigon Hi-Tech Park, to help bolster the Vietnamese IT industry. As a result of the relationship, the industry has grown significantly, to a point where today 'foreign branded quality PC solutions' are manufactured in Vietnam, creating valuable jobs and strong potential for the local industry's growth.

HP has also focused on the development of IT in the education sector and has developed a number of joint programs with the Ministry of Education & Training, universities and institutions across the country.

From small rural schools to renowned universities like the Vietnam Banking Institute and Hue Technology University, HP has an extensive program to help local education bodies with grants, scholarships and donations of products and systems.

Last year for example, HP provided the opportunity for students throughout Vietnam to have their chance to win a 50% scholarship to RMIT Vietnam.

The company has also donated equipment and set up many IT classrooms and labs around the country including: Do Luong II High School — Nghe An province; the School for Disabled Children of An Giang Province; Ho Chi Minh City Department for Science, Technology and Environment; the College of Technology of Danang; University of Science and the Vinh Linh School, Quang Tri.

HP also provided 40,000 PCs and printers at a specially discounted price, to be distributed to Vietnamese youth, as part of the Vietnamese Government's 'Vietnam IT Education' Program.

These examples are just some of the many programs that HP Vietnam continues to pursue as part of its strong commitment to encourage the sustainable development of Vietnam.

'As we celebrate our 10 years in Vietnam, this Award enables us to reflect on how far we've come, what we've achieved and how we can continue to work to help support the people of Vietnam into the future,' Madam Thuan Tran Thi Minh said.
