Thursday, 5 June 2008, Johannesburg – Long before the world was concerned with the environmental impacts of its actions, Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard had already announced their global commitment to the community. This commitment, which they made in 1930, forms part of the deep-rooted legacy which HP still upholds and follows today.
“Part of the ongoing HP commitment, and in light of World Environmental week, HP has announced that it is dedicated to recycling more than 250 million HP Inkjet and LaserJet cartridges by the end of 2008”, says Nathan Nayagar, Supplies Business Manager, HP SA.
Nayagar says that they are currently striving to ensure that 100% of HP branded consumer photo paper will derive from sustainable forest certified suppliers within 2009. This in addition will complement the existing portfolio of 100% certified HP everyday papers.
To ensure that this process is executed without delay certain policies have been put in place to ensure a successful transformation namely;
• Efficient use of raw materials;
• Sustainable forestry practices;
• Responsible and low carbon production;
• Waste minimisation;
• Community and human well being; and,
• Environmental leadership and management.
HP pledged a commitment to the community 78 years ago, today they continue to uphold that pledge and add to it.
