When it comes to reducing your company’s environmental impact or ‘footprint,’ every small step can add up to a large impact on the Earth and your energy costs.

HP can help with energy-efficient products and solutions, along with responsible and convenient ways to return equipment for reuse or recycling.

Reduce energy consumption and costs

Want to reduce power consumption up to 80.6 percent?

HP lab tests found that configuring the rp5700 Desktop PC with an HP Flat Panel monitor – along with an 80 percent power supply(1) and other ENERGY STAR 4.0 hardware features – may help customers save up to 80 percent in power consumption.(2)

True energy efficiency starts at the source, by designing the product for the environment from the start. That’s why HP engineers create energy-efficient products that go from the drawing board to your desktop, data center or mobile life where they can save you energy and money.

These products are designed to meet energy-efficiency standards of many key eco-label programs – from the ENERGY STAR® program and Germany’s Blue Angel label, to China’s Energy Conservation Program, Sweden’s TCO labels and others.

Energy ‘stars.’ Approximately 1,000 HP products have been qualified for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR program – including all HP displays and desktop PCs, virtually all imaging and printing products and 95 percent of all notebook computers.

To reduce wasted power, select HP business desktop PCs include an 80 percent efficient power supply standard that meets the EPA’s stringent ENERGY STAR 4.0 requirements. HP laptops also reduce power consumption to less than 1 watt by automatically switching to a low power mode after inactivity.

Further, more than 58 HP business PCs, notebooks, workstations and displays are registered with the U.S. Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) for public sector “green” procurement.

Cool savings. HP business PCs, like the HP Compaq dx2250 Desktop PC and the HP Compaq dc5750 Desktop PC, feature AMD’s ‘Cool ‘n’ Quiet’ processors to help reduce processor heat and energy costs.

For the data center, HP Dynamic Smart Cooling energy management systems can reduce energy consumption related to cooling by 15 – 40 percent.(3)

Extend the PC lifecycle. Designed for stability, the HP rp5700 Business Desktop PC has a five-year lifecycle, which means that HP has no planned change to form, fit or function for five years on many components.

With an 80 percent efficient power supply standard, a low-power chipset, energy-efficient processors and BIOS settings and built-in reliability features, this business PC is made for a long, useful life.

Power-efficient printing. In 2007, we redesigned HP DeskJet printers to reduce off-mode power consumption to less than 1 watt. This can reduce energy costs and the associated CO2 emissions related to electricity generation.

Blades slash power consumption.
HP BladeSystem c-Class servers with embedded Thermal Logic technology use an ultra-efficient HP Active Cool Fan to cut energy consumption by 50 percent vs. traditional fans. The c-Class architecture can also deliver power savings of up to 40 percent or more vs. rack-mount servers.(3) Further, HP Blade PCs use low-voltage processors, lowering power usage through efficient power distribution and optimizing airflow to keep data centers cool.

Go thin. HP Thin Clients use less energy than standard PCs – offering up to 80 percent savings in power over traditional desktops.

Consolidate.
Consolidating and virtualizing compute resources can do a lot to decrease energy costs. HP leveraged its own consolidation and virtualization technologies to reduce server power consumption from 5 million kilowatts to 1.8 million kilowatts in one application alone.

Reuse: Giving old technology new life

Reduce your environmental footprint and tap into the hidden value of your computing equipment. HP makes it easy with convenient reuse services around the globe.

Cash in. Get cash or credit for qualified used HP and non-HP equipment with HP Asset Recovery Services. We will refurbish and resell the equipment or, if it has no resale value, we’ll manage it in an environmentally responsible manner.

Trade up.
Trade in any brand of eligible used hardware to receive credit towards new HP equipment. Again, we’ll refurbish and resell it to extend its useful life or recycle it.

Donate.
Your old equipment may be of value to someone else. In the U.S., you can donate working equipment through the National Cristina Foundation and the Rethink Initiative with eBay.

Lease.
Lease equipment through HP Financial Services and simply return it to HP at lease end. We manage its reuse or recycling while you enjoy the benefits of leasing the latest technology.

Recycle: Easy and responsible

When your computer hardware or HP printing supplies reach end-of-life, take advantage of HP’s Planet Partners return and recycling program, available in more than 45 countries, regions and territories. To date, HP has recycled more than 920 million pounds of hardware and HP print cartridges globally and expects to exceed 1 billion pounds (450,000 tonnes) in 2007. (4)

More than 143 million HP inkjet and LaserJet cartridges have been returned and recycled worldwide. So, you can return your empty cartridges, knowing they will be recycled in an environmentally responsible way. Order postage-paid return envelopes, labels and boxes online, or find return materials in many new cartridge boxes sold in the U.S., Canada and 13 European countries. (5)

Let HP help you step up your efforts to leave a smaller footprint today.

This is not intended to represent actual savings a customer may expect to see. The following illustration of possible savings calculations are based on PCMark 05 benchmark testing results. The PCMark 05 benchmark testing results are available at http://futuremark.com/products/pcmark05/ Non-HP site. Non-HP site HP internal testing and customer results will vary. Variables include customer determined percentage of sleep state, idle state, productivity state and peak usage state. Also, manufacturing variability and actual customer usage patterns, including applications or solutions currently operating in customer environment, will affect any savings a customer may see. HP strongly encourages customers to test a system with an 80% efficient power supply in their environment to better determine any potential savings. No tool can adequately recreate customer’s usage pattern and environment. The use of this tool is solely intended as an illustration potential savings based on the PCMark 05 benchmarking
