Listen to an HP Podcast with Ken Willett to find out more about the AOME acquisition as well as about how HP is helping to build revolutionary smart cities across the Middle East. HP has dramatically expanded a core business – services – in one of its fastest growing markets: the Middle East. By acquiring Atos Origin Middle East Group (AOME) – the region’s leading implementer of SAP projects - HP confirms its position as the clear and overwhelming market leader in the region. The new talent and technology add further weight to HP’s significant leadership in the Middle East market. It is part of HP's overarching strategy to establish HP as the world's leading information technology company.

Headquartered in Bahrain, AOME employs more than 450 people, primarily in its offices in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Libya. With this acquisition, HP broadens and deepens its strategic partnerships with some of the Middle East's biggest state-owned and private companies. These customers include: Aramco – Saudi Arabia’s state-owned oil and gas company; Saudi Telecom, the biggest fixed line and mobile carrier in the region; and the chemicals company SABIC – the largest non-oil company in Saudi Arabia. When these companies need an IT partner for global, mission-critical tasks, HP will be there to help. “The Middle East is one of our fastest growing markets and this acquisition expands our ability to better service the needs of our customers,” said Ken Willett, vice president and managing director, Middle East, Mediterranean and Africa, HP. “In addition, AOME’s proven ability to design, deploy and support large-scale enterprise resource planning systems based on SAP will help us capitalise on this fast-growing market.”
The acquisition is expected to deliver three key strategic assets to HP: enhancing the company’s SAP capabilities in the Middle East; reinforcing HP’s expertise in two key market segments – the public sector, and oil & gas; and extending HP’s presence into Libya and Qatar. “This is an exciting day for all of us at AOME. Joining HP’s professional services team gives AOME the ability to be globally supported technically, gives us the financial strength to be able to better support our clients, and allows us to compete for large infrastructure projects in the region,” said Ferras Zalt, chief executive officer, AOME. “AOME’s consulting skills with HP’s global reach and knowledge will help our clients in the region meet their business challenges.”
HP is the leading technology solutions provider to consumers, businesses and institutions in the Middle East. Dubai World has chosen HP as the sole platform provider to underpin the central IT department’s functions and services while ensuring reliability, scalability, availability and business continuity with leading-edge HP Superdome hardware and HP Software. HP has contributed to the Qatar Information Technology Infrastructure Library project (ITIL) to increase the efficiency of Qatar Telecom’s (Qtel) IT division. Within six months of going live with the HP BladeSystem, Mashreqbank – the largest private sector bank in the United Arab Emirates – has seen end-of-day processing times halved and much quicker development times for new applications that enable the bank to meet customer needs more effectively.
HP has a strong track record for executing on technology acquisitions. The acquisition of AOME builds upon several acquisitions made by HP in the past three years to create one of the world's leading portfolios of enterprise IT management software and services.
